Steve Burton is talking all about coming home to General Hospital a little over two years after being let go from the hit soap opera. He had been best known for his role as Jason Morgan who would do anything for those he loved. Now, he is back but how does it feel after being away? Keep reading for more details.
Steve Burton Talks Coming ‘Home’ To General Hospital
In late 2021, both Steve Burton and Ingo Rademacher were fired from General Hospital. The network had implemented a vaccine mandate and the actors were not complying. Therefore, they were let go and it was hard for viewers to say goodbye. For Steve, his character of Jason Morgan was presumed dead in a tunnel collapse. Then, he headed to Days of Our Lives but when his stint ended, fans felt that he should come back to GH. Of course, there was some skepticism as he had been fired.
At the end of the show’s 60th anniversary event, which aired on ABC primetime, Steve reappeared as Jason. He promised big things to come meaning he was returning. In early March 2024, his character reemerged and had been alive all along but had a complete backstory. It involved Jagger Cates and the desire to end Sonny Corinthos’ life. Now, three months after Steve’s return to General Hospital, how is he feeling? According to ET, the father of three feels like he has come “home.”
At the 51st Daytime Emmy Awards, he opened up about all things GH, starting with his grand return:
“It’s been amazing to come back to the show. It’s always felt like home. I love the cast, I love the crew, and life is amazing right now. It really is, truly.”
When he was let go in 2021, Steve Burton made it clear that he did all he could to try and stay on the show. Unfortunately, it did not pan out as he had hoped but he also was not compromising who he was:
“I did apply for my medical and religious exemptions, and both of those were denied. Which, you know, hurts. But this is also about personal freedom for me. I don’t think anyone should lose their livelihood over this.”
Though he left in an interesting way, he does not regret standing his ground. Now, he is back and it feels like it all came full circle.
Full Circle Moment
Steve Burton went through a lot when he opted out of the vaccine mandate. However, he stuck to his guns and is now back at General Hospital. While walking the red carpet, he cannot help but feel really great about the whole experience:
“When another door shuts another one opens and, you know, God has a plan. I left and here I am back again, full circle, and it feels great and it’s just an amazing time.”
As for when and if he plans on leaving the ABC soap, Steve shared he would be there “if it’s on another 60 years.” That should make fans very happy to hear. He also has a new woman in his life after his divorce from Sheree Gustin with whom he shares three children. Her name is Michelle Lundstrom and he seems extremely happy so all is right in his world.
