Nicola Coughlan Talks About Not Knowing How to “Be Hot”

“When the moment is ‘look hot walking down the stairs,’ I’m like, I don’t know how to do that.”

Hello, Bridgerton fans! Season 3 is finally here, and the excitement is palpable. The latest season promises more romance, drama, and the ever-captivating allure of Regency-era London. The new stars of Bridgerton recently sat down for a fun and insightful interview, shedding light on their roles and what fans can expect. Let’s dive into the juiciest details!

Nicola’s Nervous Transformation

Nicola Coughlan, who plays the beloved Penelope Featherington, opened up about her character’s transformation this season. In a heartfelt moment, she admitted feeling nervous about having to be perceived as sexy.

“It was incredible. We have an insanely brilliant team behind us that design our beautiful costumes, make our wigs do gorgeous makeup, everything,” Nicola shared. She went on to describe the moment she had to reveal Penelope’s new look. “But for me personally as Nicola, it was a nerve-wracking moment because I’m super comfortable wearing Penelope’s crazy yellow dresses and looking mad. But then when the moment is ‘look hot walking down the stairs,’ I’m like, I don’t know how to do that.”

Nicola’s honesty about her insecurities makes her all the more relatable. The actress seemed to be living the same scenario as her character. Spoiler alert: She looks hot while walking down those stairs.

Advice for Their Characters

When asked what advice they would give their characters, Nicola and her co-star Luke Newton, who plays Colin Bridgerton, had some sage words.

Luke advised Colin to “figure it out and confess” his feelings before it’s too late. Wise words. Nicola, on the other hand, suggested Penelope “not run before she can walk” and take a moment to adjust to her new look and confidence.

This season will see Penelope and Colin navigating the complexities of their evolving relationship. Fans eagerly anticipate their story arc, affectionately dubbed “Polin.”

Fans’ Reactions and Forgiveness

Luke Newton has experienced firsthand the internet’s frustration with Colin’s past behavior. “I’ve experienced it, taken care of this for two years now. I am really looking forward to the moment when, I mean, hopefully there’s a forgiveness moment,” he said. Despite the backlash, Luke believes in Colin’s potential for redemption. And so do we!

Fans are passionate about the characters, and this season promises to delve into Colin’s growth and the resolution of past mistakes. Bridgerton‘s writers have a knack for crafting compelling arcs, and this season will be no different.

Friends to Lovers: The Ultimate Trope

One of the most beloved romantic tropes, friends to lovers, takes center stage in Season 3. Both Nicola and Luke expressed their fondness for this storyline. Nicola rewatched When Harry Met Sally for inspiration, highlighting the beauty of a love where both parties are truly known and accepted.

“It’s a love when you’re truly known, which means so much more than first blushes of love or love at first sight,” Nicola explained. This deeper connection resonates with fans and adds a layer of authenticity to Penelope and Colin’s relationship.

Looking Forward to Season 3

As Bridgerton‘s new season approaches, the anticipation is sky-high. Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton’s chemistry and the show’s lush settings and intricate plots promise an unforgettable viewing experience. Whether you’re a die-hard fan or new to the series, Season 3 is set to be a rollercoaster of emotions.

So, get ready to swoon, laugh, and shed a tear or two as Bridgerton returns with more drama, romance, and unforgettable moments.
