Katy Perry Wants To See Jelly Roll Replace Her

Katy Perry announced that she would be leaving American Idol in February on Jimmy Kimmel Live. After seven seasons, the “Dark Horse” singer has decided to focus on making new music and performing. Since then, everyone has been trying to figure out who will replace the beloved judge on Idol.

It appears that Jelly Roll is ready to step up to the plate for American Idol‘s open judge position. In fact, Katy Perry would love to see the “Wild Ones” singer replace her on the competition show.

She was asked about who might fill her seat after she departs from the show this season.

“I gotta say Jelly Roll was crazy when he came on the show,” she said. “I was convinced at anything he said. He could run for president, he could be my pastor, I might go back to church for him. He could sell me anything.”

Katy Perry continued, “To have any of these guys plus Jelly on the show would be amazing. I love you, Jelly!”

Jelly Roll Would Take The Job At American Idol

When Jelly Roll was asked about potentially appearing on American Idol, he seemed to be more than ready for the task.

“Of course!” he said. “Consider?! I’ve accepted the job, and they haven’t offered it,” the country music star laughed.

Jelly Roll appeared on the April 8 episode of American Idol. He appeared on the competition show as a guest mentor and performer. It seemed like he and Katy Perry really hit it off.

When the pair ran into each other at the iHeartRadio Music Awards, Katy told him that he should be the one to replace her on Idol.

He recalled running into her backstage, saying, “When we were talking backstage the other day, she tells me this, just me and her, and my wife, of course, everybody’s watching. She says, ‘I’m telling you, you need to replace me.’”

“I always love people that are the same way publicly as they are privately,” he added. “’Cause some people will tell you how great you are privately but then won’t post your album. But it’s like, for her to then immediately, first interview she gets asked, brings me up, I’m like, ‘I love you, Katy!’”

American Idol only has a few more episodes left this season. You can watch it on Sundays at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
