“Toxic Shock” Event Coming April 16 to ‘The Outlast Trials’; New Accolades Trailer Released [Video]

Red Barrels has announced that The Outlast Trials has now reached over 2 million players across PC, Xbox, and PS5 since its Early Access launch back in May 2023. With the game now out of Early Access and available in full, Red Barrels is celebrating the game’s one-month anniversary with the first limited-time event later this week in “Toxic Shock. Alongside the announcement comes a new accolades trailer, which just so happens to feature a quote from Harrison’s review.

With over 2 million player having braved the trials, Red Barrels also dropped a few stats. There have been over 38 million deaths in The Outlast Trials so far, with enough blood spilled to submerge NYC’s Central Park under a two-meter-deep sea of blood. On a less morbid note, over 600,000 participants have fought their way to freedom and became Reborn.

On that note, players will be facing new challenges beginning on April 16 with the Toxic Shock event. From April 16 to May 7, Toxic Shock will feature the following:

  • Time Limited Program “Toxic Shock”: An experiment in the symbiotic action of chemically-induced pain and permanent damage.
  • New Variator: Toxic Shock – The Trial environment sporadically fills with toxic gas, inflicting permanent damage. Participants must hide to stay alive.
  • New Secondary Objective: Collect The Rats – Recover all the drugged rats within the Trial for tissue analysis. Fulfill the objective for additional rewards.
  • Complete Trials in this time-limited program to earn exclusive Toxic Shock Rewards.
  • Uncover the secrets of Toxic Shock by locating new evidence documents scattered throughout the Trials

The event will coincide with new quality-of-life improvements, which will be explained in detail in the April 16 patch notes.

If that wasn’t enough, Red Barrels has also revealed the roadmap for the Season 1 content, though they’re keeping the details under wraps for the time being. “Listening closely to our players has always been at the heart of what we do at Red Barrels. It’s players’ feedback that lights the way, guiding us on how to refine and elevate the game to the pinnacle of horror gaming experiences,” says Alex Charbonneau, Game Director, emphasizing the team’s commitment to evolving the game alongside its community. “We’re dedicated to fine-tuning the game, to deliver a game that is not only horrifying and thrilling but also deeply immersive. Our vision is to create a multiplayer experience that continues to captivate and terrify players for years to come.”

The Outlast Trials is available now on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
