Kerry King Unveils New Song and Video “Residue”: Stream

Kerry King has unveiled the new single “Residue” from his debut solo LP, From Hell I Rise, arriving May 17th. The song is accompanied by the album’s debut music video, offering the first glimpse of the Slayer guitarist’s all-star solo band in action.

“Residue” follows the album’s lead single, “Idle Hands,” which was our Heavy Song of the Week upon its release in February. Both songs have a Slayer vibe to them, as King has stated that his solo project is a sonic extension of his work in the legendary thrash band.

The lineup for King’s eponymous band includes singer Mark Osegueda (Death Angel), guitarist Phil Demmell (ex-Machine Head), bassist Kyle Sanders (Hellyeah), and drummer Paul Bostaph (Slayer). The “Residue” music video, co-directed by Jim Louvau and Tony Aguilera,  shows the band performing against a fiery backdrop.

“I come from a big fire pedigree,” said King of the video, “and my music works with fire. I’ve always written horror-type music, so it made sense to incorporate fire into the first video where you get to see the entire band, which I think is just awesome. I think fire goes hand-in-hand with the devil, and I’m no stranger to talking about the devil.”

Louvau added, “I knew this would be the first time that the world was going to see the band performing together so I wanted to create a fast moving visual assault. Pyrotechnics and Kerry King clearly go hand and hand and seem to fit like a glove so Tony and I wanted to create something that felt familiar but also something new and exciting. I also knew I could get away with certain visuals like a burning pentagram.”

Kerry King and company recently announced a new club show at Reggie’s in Chicago on May 7th that will serve as a warm-up to the band’s Welcome to Rockville festival appearance on May 9th, and will also mark the band’s first-ever live gig. They’ll also be playing Sonic Temple on May 16th, and supporting Lamb of God and Mastodon on a summer North American tour. Tickets to the upcoming shows are available here.
