Pierce Brosnan Pleads Guilty to Off Trail Yellowstone Hike

Pierce Brosnan has pleaded guilty for walking off a trail at Yellowstone National Park and will pay $1,500 for the transgression.

After walking off trail in a thermal area of Yellowstone’s Mammoth Terraces last November, Brosnan posted a picture on Instagram. The photo alerted authorities to the act of trespassing, leading to the court case. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor was in the park for personal reasons, not for any film work.

Prosecutors recommended a $5,000 fine and a two-year probationary sentence, but Brosnan ultimately was fined $500. Additionally, he was ordered to pay $1,000 to the nonprofit organization, Yellowstone Forever. There was an additional petty offense for violating closures and use limits, but it was dismissed by U.S. Magistrate Judge Stephanie Hambrick.

After pleading guilty, Brosnan posted a statement on Instagram, which read: “As an environmentalist I have the utmost respect for and love of our natural world. However, I made an impulsive mistake — one that I do not take lightly — when entering a thermal area covered in snow in Yellowstone National Park to take a photograph.”

Continuing, the former James Bond actor explained that he “did not see a ‘No Trespassing’ sign posted” nor did he “hike in the immediate area.” Nevertheless, he offered his “heartfelt apologies to all for trespassing in this sensitive area,” and signed off with the hashtag “#StayOnThePath.” Read his full statement below.

In 2022, Brosnan appeared as Doctor Fate in the DC film Black Adam.
