‘Talk to Me’ Just Won Best Picture at the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards

The live action Masters of the Universe feature film reboot has been gestating for a while now, and Deadline reports today that Travis Knight (Bumblebee) is now in talks to direct.

Deadline notes that “Travis Knight is in final negotiations to direct.” The exclusive report goes on to say, “Insiders say his deal has still not closed and that other elements on the project are still coming together but all signs are pointing to Knight being the top choice to direct.”

Adam and Aaron Nee (The Lost City) wrote the original version of the script with David Callaham (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), which Chris Butler will rewrite.

The site also reports, “This film revolves around when Prince Adam was 9-years-old, he crashed to Earth in a spaceship and was separated from his Magical Sword – the only link to his home on Eternia. After tracking it down almost two decades later, Adam is whisked back across space to defend his home planet against the evil forces of Skeletor.

“But to defeat such a powerful villain, Prince Adam will first need to uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man: The most powerful man in the Universe!”

The movie will be based on the beloved Mattel toyline, which spawned a successful animated TV series (1983-85) as well as the 1987 live-action film starring Dolph Lundgren as He-Man. The property centers on the warrior He-Man, the last hope of a magical land called Eternia.

The new movie comes from Amazon MGM Studios, Mattel, and Escape Artist.
