‘Cuckoo’ Teaser – A Mysterious New Look at Hunter Schafer in Tilman Singer’s Horror Movie

A brand new teaser for mysterious horror film Cuckoo, from NEON and director Tilman Singer (Luz), debuted today, giving us another look at star Hunter Schafer (“Euphoria”) while revealing absolutely nothing.

Cuckoo is coming to theaters on May 3, 2024.

In Cuckoo: “Reluctantly, 17-year-old Gretchen leaves her American home to live with her father, who has just moved into a resort in the German Alps with his new family. Arriving at their future residence, they are greeted by Mr. König, her father’s boss, who takes an inexplicable interest in Gretchen’s mute half-sister Alma. Something doesn’t seem right in this tranquil vacation paradise. Gretchen is plagued by strange noises and bloody visions until she discovers a shocking secret that also concerns her own family.”

Check out the enigmatic teaser below, which leaves a character vulnerable to the open night and telling us nothing about the plot. A very intriguing move!

The film’s tagline “Adolescence needs to be trained” is a creepy one.

“Following his festival sensation LUZ, German director Tilman Singer has once again succeeded in creating an atmospheric and visually outstanding horror trip with an original plot and perfidious twists,” the teaser’s description reads.

It’s also worth noting that Singer shot Cuckoo on 35mm.

Dan Stevens (The Guest), Jessica Henwick (Underwater), Marton Csókás (Freelance), Greta Fernández (Santo) and Jan Bluthardt (Luz) also star in Cuckoo.

Singer’s new horror film will make its International Premiere next month at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas. Be sure to keep eye out for Bloody Disgusting’s coverage of the fest, Cuckoo included.

Tom Quinn, Jeff Deutchman, Emily Thomas and Ryan Friscia executive produced Cuckoo for Neon, with producers including Markus Halberschmidt, Josh Rosenbaum, Maria Tsigka, and Ken Kao, Thor Bradwell and Ben Rimmer. Shot on 35mm in Germany, the upcoming film is a cooperation between Germany’s Fiction Park and the United States’ Waypoint Entertainment.
