Capcom Confirms More ‘Resident Evil’ Remakes Planned

In another “no brainer” decision, Capcom has has confirmed plans to continue the trend of remaking past Resident Evil titles. Hot off of the success of remakes of Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4, Resident Evil 4 remake director Yasuhiro Anpo announced during a PlayStation partners event in Japan that the developer would be pursuing more remakes in the series.

Translated by IGN Japan, Anpo acknowledged Capcom plans when asked if the company plans on continuing with the Resident Evil series remakes. “We’ve released three remakes so far and they have all been received very well. Since it allows a modern audience to play these games, it is something I am happy to do as someone that loves these older games, and we want to continue doing more.”

As for which Resident Evil title will be getting the treatment next, Anpo didn’t say. “What game we will remake in the future is something that we would like to announce in the future, so please look forward to it.”

The first title for many fans to say that needs a revisit would be Resident Evil Code: Veronica. Given that Capcom shut down a fan remake late last year, there’s speculation among many that Capcom would be doing the job themselves. That, and the fact that Resident Evil 4 remake producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi was posed the question about remaking Code: Veronica, but was noncommittal about it.

Currently, fans (at least on PlayStation) can look forward to the upcoming free VR Mode update for Resident Evil 4 this Friday.
