Édith Piaf is the subject of a forthcoming animated biopic, one that will be heavily produced with AI elements, as Warner Music announced today. The company worked with the late singer’s estate and the production company Seriously Happy to develop the project, which is titled Edith, relying on “AI technology trained on hundreds of voice clips and images.”

According to a press release, the 90-minute Edith will follow the life of the French singer from the 1920s through the 1960s, set in New York and Paris. Piaf’s regenerated voice will narrate the film, which will also feature recordings of her best-known songs like “La Vie en Rose” and “Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien.” The press release continued, “Animation will provide a modern take on her story, while the inclusion of archival footage, stage and TV performances, personal footage, and TV interviews will provide audiences with an authentic look at the significant moments of Piaf’s life.

Edith does not yet have a release date. It is reportedly based on an idea by Julie Veille, who’s previously produced TV documentary specials about Sting, Stevie Wonder, and Donna Summer. Veille co-wrote Edith with Gilles Marliac.
