TikTok is loving the black lip gloss trend that’s being repped by the likes of queer popstar Dove Cameron.

The sheer black lip gloss look is likely to be a big trend during the autumn/fall months as people channel a soft goth aesthetic.

If you want to try out some goth-inspired beauty looks, but don’t want to dive straight into matte black lipstick, then this is the perfect tester.

The look is created by combining a light or pastel shade lipstick with a black lip gloss and it’s been showcased by a number of TikTok creators.

A video posted by TikTok user @aoifeartist, shows them applying a sheer black lip gloss from Pat McGrath and it’s racked up more than 1.2 million views.

They captioned the post: “it’s sooooo slay” and it received a huge response from viewers, with many wondering where the lip gloss was from.

Unfortunately that product is discounted, but there’s plenty of other black lip gloss products you can buy to create the look.

This includes an affordable one from E.L.F. Cosmetics, in the shade Cookies ‘N Dreams, which is less than $5.

There’s also Hydra Bomb Lip Gloss by Makeup Revolution in the shade, Stormy and Liplacq in Black Veil by the brand, ISAMAYA.

The same TikTok user also posted a video of them using the cheaper option from E.L.F. Cosmetics.

@aoifeartist Replying to @:P going to try it on top of other shades cos it is gorgeous regardless!! #makeupartist #firstimpressions ♬ original sound – aoife

However, some TikTok users expressed their disappointment in the product as it wasn’t a sheer black, instead a clearer-look lip gloss.

They replied: “I’m impressed with how gorgeous it is as a gloss but not as a black one specifically lol.”

Others suggested a DIY method, by mixing the lip gloss with a small amount of black eyeshadow to create a thicker and darker look.

Another option is the two-piece black lip set from Revolution Beauty as part of their Matrix collaboration. There are two dark shades in the set including a wine-red matte and forest green matte liquid lipstick.

Queer popstar Dove Cameron is among those who’ve repped the black lip gloss look, which the singer showcased at the MTV VMAs earlier this year.

She wore the look over a neutral lip colour and cat eye makeup, pairing it with black pigtails and a black belted choker.

Cameron – who came out as queer in May 2021 – picked up the award for Best New Artist at the ceremony.

During her acceptance speech she said: “I want to dedicate this to all the queer kids out there who don’t feel that they can take up space and inhabit the fullness of who they are.”

She continued: “Thank you for getting an overtly queer song onto mainstream radio.

“Thank you for supporting me as the artist I am, and I hope you can give others the same privilege as myself.”
