Exclusive: Lea Michele Returns to Funny Girl After COVID-19

Funny Girl has been and still is tackling a tremendous wave of COVID with close to a dozen company members currently out,” Michele wrote on Instagram when announcing her brief hiatus. “We are almost on the other side of this and our swings and understudies are doing such an incredible job to keep our show on its feet.”

“This week has been a dream come true and I cannot wait to get back,” Michele added. “You better get ready. See you soon.”

Meanwhile, Michele stayed busy during her time in quarantine by joining TikTok. Her first video found the Glee alum dueting with Javi Rodriguez (@javirod305), lip syncing to audio of herself singing “Don’t Rain On My Parade” while holding a hair brush as a microphone and breaking into Beyoncé inspired choreography. “Clearly I can’t wait to get back to @funnygrlbwy next week,” she captioned the clip. In a second, even more popular TikTok, Michele cheekily poked fun at the internet’s theory that she is illiterate, pretending to call her best friend Jonathan Groff to ask him to read her TikTok comments, lipsyncing to audio of Kim Kardashian

But now, Michele is COVID-19-free and back on Broadway. She’ll reunite with four-time Tony nominee Feldshuh, who took over the role of Mrs. Brice from Michele’s former Glee co-star Jane Lynch, when she left the production in mid-August. She’ll also reunite with Karimloo, who stars as Michele’s love interest, the gambling Arnstein, and Jared Grimes, who was nominated for a Tony for his work as tap-dancing Eddie Ryan.
