“Relaxation Is Key”: Vanessa Kirby on Her Red-Carpet Rituals

Though the Venice Film Festival may be over, Vanessa Kirby’s glamorous look is still fresh in our minds.

Earlier this month, The Crown actor visited the City of Canals to promote her latest film The Son, and join Cartier to celebrate the jeweler’s second year as the official partner of the festival, before hitting the red carpet in sparkling jewels from the luxury brand. But before meeting a wall of camera flashes, Kirby shared how she prepares to make her debut: by pairing gratitude with good company.

“Relaxation is key,” she recently told Vanity Fair, “and remembering to be grateful to get to do a job I truly love to do.”

In addition to taking a moment to reflect, her good friend Anna, who has been with Kirby “at almost every red carpet—even this one at eight months pregnant!” she says, helps get the actor in the right headspace to strike a pose.

“We love just hanging out in the room with a good playlist, some great food, and maybe a little martini to help with the nerves,” she says.

For the premiere of The Son, Kirby complemented her sequin- and feather-embellished Valentino couture gown with three exquisite pieces from Cartier: a pair of High Jewelry earrings made with 18k white gold, rock crystal, and diamonds and two Cartier Collection white gold and diamond rings.

When it comes to gems and jewels, Kirby counts Princess Margaret as her inspiration. “It was magic to learn about the craft of the pieces she’d wear and her absolute love of beautiful jewelry…. I wore a ring in Pieces of a Woman that I’ve never taken off since. It really means a lot to me,” she says.
