Have you ever wondered what it takes to be chosen to be on a reality TV show? Is it looks? Do you have to know someone? We spoke with Carol Malone an active casting agent for reality TV and an author. She loves casting for Haunted TV shows. She has worked for Haunted Hospital seen on the Travel Chanel. Her credits in casting are many, including A&E, and Discovery, plus production companies in Canada. We asked her a series of questions about what it takes to be on reality TV. Then we compiled a list of what is most needed for you to compete.
Be friendly and lively. Be yourself flaws and all. No one likes boring.
DO NOT PHOTOSHOP YOUR PICTURES
One of the biggest no-nos is photoshopping your pictures. Can you imagine getting selected to be interviewed via a streaming service based on your photoshopped pictures? It will be a horror show for you and the casting agent. They get to see exactly what you look like. If you don’t look like the pictures you submitted then you are a 100% no deal.
PICK UP YOUR PHONE!
One of the easiest ways to lose a part on reality tv is the fact you do not answer your phone or call back in a respectable amount of time. The casting agent may want you, but if you are difficult to contact or you don’t call back then they move on to the next person.
Carol Malone says this is a deal-breaker. If there is something embarrassing in your past, like a criminal record or criminal records of family members. This can be forgiven in the casting process, but to lie about it and say nothing or say it didn’t happen will rule you out. In this new day and age, we check your background. We do not need the added stress and cost involved with terminating your contract due to the fact you lied. Plus you may be financially liable for lying.
IF ASKED TO DO A VIDEO OF YOURSELF FOR SUBMISSION
Again we are back to your personality. Be real and most of all be yourself. Casting agents can see through the BS in a heartbeat. Remember no one likes boring.
