“Stevie Nicks Gone Dominatrix”: Natasha Lyonne on Her Russian Doll Premiere Look

For the season two premiere of Russian Doll, Natasha Lyonne managed to have just as much fun with her look as she does trying to escape an endless time loop on her Netflix show. Dressed in a leather and chiffon bondage-inspired gown from Roberto Cavalli, Lyonne was joined by cast mates Greta Lee, Chloë Sevigny and producer Amy Poehler to celebrate the series’s return with soirée at the Bowery Hotel last week.

“We wanted something that felt like it suited the night,” Lyonne recently told Vanity Fair of deciding on the outfit from Cavalli’s fall/winter 2022 collection. “This Stevie Nicks gone dominatrix Cavalli number [fashion stylist] Cristina Ehrlich found really fit the bill.”

Her favorite part of the bold ensemble? “The way it added a bit of humor to the usually too serious role of master of ceremonies,” she said. “The combat boots made it surprisingly comfortable for a long night.”

But before Lyonne, who counts Iris Apfel and Wesley Snipes’s custom Givenchy Oscars suit among her style inspirations, reunited with her Russian Doll co-stars, her signature blonde curls were coiffed by Jillian Halouska, makeup perfected by Kabuki and her chic black nails expertly manicured by Shirley Cheng using Kokoist USA gel.

With all the finishing touches in place, it was finally time to celebrate. Ahead of posing for photographers, Lyonne relied on her red carpet ritual: “A last drag before trying to remember to have good posture, which I always forget.”

The glamorous evening was a marked changed from the simplicity Lyonne employs in her everyday wardrobe. “I wear some variation on the same thing daily. It’s a twist on black jeans, white socks or shiny blue Wolford stocking socks, black Ralph Lauren patent leather loafers or Balenciaga sock booties, a t-shirt or a blouse, and lately a free oversized Saint Laurent blazer that makes my shoulders look much larger than they are and any number of prescription sunglasses,” she explained.
