Former New York mayor and Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani has been revealed as a contestant on The Masked Singer, leaving viewers furious.

Giuliani, who has faced allegations of corruption and profiteering, was a key figure in the Donald Trump Ukraine scandal, and helped the former president push lies and conspiracy theories about election fraud in 2020, which resulted in his law licenses being suspended in New York and Washington, DC, was unmasked as Jack in the Box on Wednesday (20 April).

After Giuliani was unmasked and began singing “Bad to the Bone”, host Ken Jeong stared in grim amazement, before saying “I’m done”, and walking off set.

Once his Jack in the Box head was removed, Giuliani was asked about his reasons for appearing on the show. He responded: “I don’t get to have a lot of fun.”

The unmasking of Rudy Giuliani, also known for being caught with his hand down his trousers by Borat and the unforgettable news conference where a mysterious brown liquid began running down his cheeks, caused widespread outrage, with many insisting he should be in prison rather than a reality TV competition show.

Writer and trans rights activist Parker Molloy tweeted Giuliani’s unmasking, and wrote: “He should be in prison, but Rudy Giuliani is on The Masked Singer right now… There is something very wrong with us as a society if Giuliani isn’t held accountable for everything he’s done.”

Journalist Ana Navarro-Cárdenas added: “I thought there could not ever possibly be worse and more humiliating footage of Rudy Giuliani than when s**t-coloured sweaty dye streaked down his face.

“I was wrong.”

In 2020, The Masked Singer again horrified viewers by casting anti-LGBT+ former vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, who sung Sir Mix-a-Lot’s “Baby Got Back” dressed as a bear.

Giuliani is not the only one of Trump’s former inner circle to appear on reality TV level in apparent desperate bids to save some semblance of their careers.

Trump’s former press secretary Sean Spicer appeared on Dancing with the Stars in 2019, to the horror of viewers.
