Ali Wong and Husband Justin Hakuta Divorce After 8 Years of Marriage

Ali Wong and her husband Justin Hakuta have decided to end their marriage after eight years together.

A source told People that despite the split, “It’s amicable and they will continue to co-parent lovingly.” The pair first met in 2010 at a friend’s wedding reception when Hakuta was still a student at Harvard Business School and a Fulbright scholar. They hit it off and four years later in November 2014, the couple wed in San Francisco. A year later they welcomed their first daughter Mari, and in 2017 their second daughter Nikki was born. Hakuta is now a successful entrepreneur and was previously the vice president of the technology company GoodRx. He is also the son of Japanese-American inventor and TV personality Ken Hakuta, also known as Dr. Fad.

This news comes just two months after Wong’s most recent comedy special, Don Wong, in which she joked about “going through a midlife crisis” and wanting to cheat on her husband now that she’s rich and famous. She also confessed during the Netflix special that, “Only other married people with kids can empathize with the deep envy people I feel towards you single people. You don’t know how free you are. You can eat an edible at 2 p.m., go to the aquarium, and watch the jellyfish go back and forth.” She continued, “You single people, you don’t know what it’s like to eat a cold quesadilla that your toddler threw on the floor, because it’s easier to put it in your mouth than travel to the trash, while you repeat to yourself over and over, that child abuse is illegal!”

She also wrote about her marriage in her 2019 memoir, Dear Girls: Intimate Tales. Untold Secrets, and Advice for Living Your Best Life, revealing that she signed a prenup prior to their wedding. Because of that decision, she said she became, “more motivated to make my own money because I signed a document specifically outlining how much I couldn’t depend on my husband.” She added, “My father always praised ‘the gift of fear.’ And that prenup scared the shit out of me. In the end, being forced to sign that prenup was one of the greatest things that ever happened to me and my career.”
