A24’s ‘Men’ Rated “R” for Disturbing Content and Graphic Nudity

One of the most hotly anticipated horror movies on the horizon is the Universal Monsters movie Renfield, and that’s largely because Nicolas Cage is co-starring as Dracula himself!

Renfield comes to theaters on April 14, 2023, and People has shared some first-look images from the set of the film that give us a taste of Cage’s take on the blood-sucking icon.

Decked out in a blood red suit, Cage’s Dracula is pale-as-can-be with slicked back hair, long fingernails, and a whole lot of gold on his fingers. Not surprisingly, Cage’s Dracula is a Dracula like we’ve never seen before, though it’s hard not to draw similarities between Cage and Hammer’s iconic Dracula, Christopher Lee. We can expect, however, an entirely fresh new take.

Universal Pictures has enlisted Nicolas Cage to play Count Dracula in the upcoming feature film Renfield, based on an original pitch from “The Walking Dead” creator Robert KirkmanChris McKay (The Tomorrow War) is directing the movie, with Nicholas Hoult (Warm Bodies, Mad Max: Fury Road) on board to star as the central character, Dracula’s henchman.

The film is said to be a “modern-day adventure story that is comedic in tone.”

“The film centers on Renfield (Hoult), who has grown sick and tired of his centuries as Dracula’s (Cage) lackey. The henchman finds a new lease on life and maybe even redemption when he falls for feisty, perennially angry traffic cop Rebecca Quincy (Awkwafina).”

Ben SchwartzAdrian Martinez, Shohreh Aghdashloo and Bess Rouss also star.

Nicolas Cage recently teased his Dracula in Renfield, noting that the character’s movements have been inspired by horror films including Ringu and even James Wan’s Malignant!

Ryan Ridley (“Rick and Morty”) wrote the script for Renfield.
