Kristen Stewart joined Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally in giving Vladimir Putin the finger at the 2022 Independent Spirit Awards.

Offerman and Mullally, who have been married for 19 years, co-hosted the awards ceremony, which celebrates the best of independent film and television.

At one point during the ceremony, Mullally told the audience: “I think we speak for everyone here when we say we are hoping for a quick and peaceful resolution [in Ukraine].

“Specifically, f**k off and go home, Putin.”

Offerman chimed in: “That is the quick and peaceful resolution we’re talking about. We hope Putin f**ks off and goes home.

“Let’s all join together with a Spirit Awards salute to Putin.”

The couple raised their middle fingers to camera, and were immediately joined by Stewart.

They added: “There are a lot of great organisations raising money for Ukrainian refugees, so please give what you can to help the victims of this senseless act of aggression.”

Kristen Stewart is ‘compelled to stand with the people of Ukraine’

In her own speech, before presenting the award for Best Male Lead, Kristen Stewart said: “We stand for independence as a community. We stand for freedom of expression, we stand for humanity. Today, we are compelled to stand with the people of Ukraine.

“They are risking their lives to fight for those very things. We stand with the thousands of refugees fleeing this war, both Ukrainians and those of other ethnicities and nationalities who are being denied safe harbour.

“We must never, ever take for granted the importance of courage, empathy and the power of connecting.

“The power of understanding each other feels really good, so let’s give it a shot.”

Vladimir Putin launched an unprovoked and brutal invasion of Ukraine on 24 February.

The war since then has seen hundreds of thousands Ukrainians fleeing the country, while others, including many members of the LGBT+ community, are preparing themselves for combat.

The number of casualties is currently unknown.
