Euphoria star Hunter Schafer has ‘vaguely clarified’ that she is bisexual, pansexual “or something”.

Schafer has been a rising star in the acting world since she first appeared on screens as Jules Vaughn, a trans teen who begins a romantic relationship with Rue Bennett (Zendaya), on HBO’s hit drama Euphoria in 2019.

Around the same time, Schafer told Dazed that her sexuality is “closer to what you might call a lesbian”.

Two years on, Schafer has opened up more about her sexuality while responding to a viral fan tweet.

“Hunter Schafer is a lesbian,” it read. “Congratulations lesbians. You’ve taken from me the one thing that matters most.”

However, Schafer was quick respond: “As much as I wish this were true I would like to vaguely clarify that unfortunately I am like bi or pan or something.”

Fans celebrated Hunter Schafer, with one Twitter account declaring her “the bisexual of the day”.

Schafer will return to screens in the new year, when Euphoria’s long-awaited and much-delayed second season airs.

In a cover interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Schafer said there is “lot of” her in her Euphoria character, Jules.

She explained that the “blurred lines between an actor and a character make a deeper character”.

“The work of an actor is trying to simulate a full life,” Schafer continued. “Some people might say that doesn’t make me as strong of an actor, but … that’s how I learned.”

She also recalled a time when Zendaya told her a story from her childhood, only to realise that Schafer doesn’t talk about her childhood.

Schafer admitted that it was a “little bit sad but also true” to say that the “story of [her] life” began in her teenage years when she was “finally living in the world the way I was supposed to”.

“I don’t know if I’ve talked about this in the press before, but I think there’s a phenomenon among the trans and queer community, and it’s why we make great artists a lot of the time,” she explained.

Schafer continued: “When your exterior world and your body and your self are not in line with who you are, you turn inward.

“And my theory is that I built a really rich inner world until I started feeling like myself in my body.

“I’ve been trying to do the work of digging up stuff, but it’s going to take a while to excavate everything.”

Euphoria season two premieres on HBO on 9 January, 2022.
