Olivia Munn Thinks It’s Weird You Have an Opinion on Her Pregnancy

“It’s hard to be pregnant for the first time and have anybody say anything besides, like, ‘Congratulations.’”

Olivia Munn and John Mulaney will have a baby soon, but in the meantime, Mulaney must do stand-up, drawing from his life, and Munn must promote the movie Violet and share her life in press interviews. So while he has joked on a stage about how strange it was to announce his impending fatherhood on Seth Meyers’s late-night show and get “mixed reviews,” Munn has told the Los Angeles Times, “It’s hard to be pregnant for the first time and have anybody say anything besides, like, ‘Congratulations.’”

Together, you get the sense that it’s all very strange for them. Having strangers commenting on their large life event doesn’t seem like their number one idea of a good time. “They think they know our relationship so well,” she said. “When in reality, they don’t. There’s no way anyone could know what any of his relationships were or what our relationship is.”

Yes, dissecting those who are parsing their relationship and their other relationships is not their ideal way to spend a morning. In explaining why she’d rather not speak to specific rumors—rumors that are not explicitly stated in the piece, and thus I can’t guess here what exactly they’re talking about—Munn said, “If I try to say anything, I run the risk of being called messy or not telling the truth. The only way to win, for me, is to pull back and to not play the game at all.”

“There’s this vulnerability that I feel that makes me want to…just turn everything off,” she added. “I’d rather close the door to that and just take care of myself and my baby.”

Maybe Munn can take heart in knowing that motherhood for normals is mired in nutty judgment.
