Britney Spears Eases Her Paparazzi Fears With Early Christmas Joy

An Instagram post offered insight into Spears’s complicated feelings as she extricates herself from the conservatorship that’s ruled her life for 13 years.

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. A man wrote that. Britney Spears, however, wrote, “Lord have mercy on my family’s souls if I ever do an interview !!!” That really has a ring to it.

On Friday, Spears gave some insight into how she’s adjusting to life without her father guiding her conservatorship.

“I’ll just be honest and say I’ve waited so long to be free from the situation I’m in … and now that it’s here I’m scared to do anything because I’m afraid I’ll make a mistake !!!” she wrote in the Instagram post, a sign that fury and fear often co-mingle. “For so many years I was always told if I succeeded at things, it could end … and it never did !!! I worked so hard but now that it’s here and getting closer and closer to ending I’m very happy but there’s a lot of things that scare me 😬 !!!”

A judge removed Jamie Spears from his role as co-conservator in September, meaning he’s lost control of her estate. An accountant was temporarily placed in Jamie’s position, but there’s a chance that the arrangement that’s ruled Britney’s life for the last 13 years could be dissolved soon. Her next hearing is November 12.

She added that the paparazzi are still on her, a situation that bears resemblance to the aughts and not in a good way. “It’s like they want me to do something crazy,” she said, confirming too that she’s taking a break from working, even a break from working on her own terms, whatever that would mean at this point, writing, “In the meantime … I’m staying clear of the business 💼 which is all I’ve ever known my whole life … which is why this is so very confusing for me !!!”

Spears also confirmed that she’s celebrating Christmas early, with a photo of a decorated tree, spreading the joy. All of you who secretly cued up Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” on October 1 maybe don’t have to hide in the shadows any more (Britney is not the only one relying on old Christmas traditions to shore herself up). She wrote, “I believe any reason to find more joy in life is a good idea … and it’s no secret that I’ve been through it in the past … so I might have to do things a little differently from now on !!!”
