Though controversy in June 2020 led Canadian stylist Jessica Mulroney to take a few social media breaks, she has been steadily posting on her Instagram account for most of 2021. She has shared photographs of her three kids, discussed her experience with anxiety, and even posted a bouquet of flowers seemingly sent to her by one-time best friend Meghan Markle when she turned 41 in March. So when Mulroney didn’t acknowledge Meghan’s 40th birthday earlier this month—even as celebrity friends came out of the woodwork to endorse the Archewell 40×40 mentorship program—it led to speculation that the bond between the two wasn’t as strong as Mulroney had once claimed.
According to the Daily Mail, a mutual friend of Mulroney and Meghan says that they are still close. “Meghan is in regular touch with Jessica,” the source told the Mail’s Richard Eden. “It’s just difficult now they’re in California and Jessica’s in Toronto.”
Mulroney’s response to Eden was similarly brief. “Just because it didn’t happen on Instagram, doesn’t mean it didn’t happen,” she said.
It makes sense that whatever Mulroney did or said to Meghan might not have made it online. After their royal exit became official in March 2020, she and Prince Harry shuttered their popular Instagram account, Sussex Royal, and have become increasingly vocal about the harms of social media. Eventually, they announced that they had no plans to start any new accounts and communicated through their Archewell website or the accounts of nonprofits they are affiliated with.
As for Mulroney, she is still getting her career back on track after influencer Sasha Exeter accused her of “textbook white privilege” last summer, leading to the cancelation of her CTV reality show I Do, Redo. On Instagram earlier this summer, she announced that she was designing a suit collection, and has shared samples of vibrant matching separates. She also shares examples of her work as a stylist for actor Mindy Kaling.
