Dealing a death blow with one finger, Jennifer Lopez crossed the relationship Rubicon on Saturday when she unfollowed her former fiancée Alex Rodriguez on Instagram. The move was first reported on by Page Six, which must have some magical notification software that flags when this stuff goes down.
Beyond unfollowing Rodriguez, which one could potentially wave away with “oh, my thumb must have slipped, sorry,” the singer, actress, dancer, and designer also went back and deleted “every trace” of her ex from the social network. The deleted pictures include one of the two of them at President Biden’s inauguration, where Lopez, in an all-white Chanel outfit, sang a medley that included “This Land Is Your Land,” “America, The Beautiful,” and “Let’s Get Loud.”
The move comes four months after the pair split following their two-year engagement. Soon thereafter, Lopez surprised us all by initiating a time warp when she fell into the warm embrace of the Academy Award-winning Dunkin’ Donuts brand ambassador, Ben Affleck. At the time, he had recently separated from his pandemic paramour, Ana de Armas.
Prior to the Great Unfollowing, Lopez and Rodriguez engaged in a round of dueling Mediterranean birthday yacht trips, as one does. Off the coast of Saint-Tropez, Lopez celebrated her 52nd by shooting a video and smooching Affleck. Days prior, in the same waters, Rodriguez jubilantly rode down an inflatable slide. As his tour continued to the Spanish island of Ibiza, he was seen with CBS’s NFL sideline reporter Melanie Collins.
As far as retribution is concerned, V.F. can confirm that Rodriguez is, at least as of Sunday morning, still following Lopez on Instagram. We just checked.
