No, Prince Harry Isn’t Planning on Dropping a Bombshell After the Queen Dies

Members of Harry’s team have hit back after a report speculated that he has already signed a contract for a book to be published when his grandmother dies.

Earlier this week, reports emerged that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have already made plans for at least two more books in addition to Meghan’s new picture book, The Bench, and Harry’s memoir, which is slated for late 2022. But contrary to a report in the Daily Mail, Harry is not planning a book to be released in the event of Queen Elizabeth’s death, his spokesperson told People.

The Mail report spoke to someone who claimed to have knowledge of Harry’s negotiations with publishers and speculated about his intentions to drop an “unexploded bomb.” In response, Harry’s lawyers also hit back against the report’s specifics, which they called “false and defamatory.”

In a separate report, the Mail on Sunday spoke to a source that palace courtiers have reacted to the news of Harry’s memoir with “anger and disappointment.” According to the tabloid, courtiers are worried that Harry will not tell them in advance about the content of the memoir yet have decided not to respond publicly to avoid “fanning the flames.”

However, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, Harry’s cousins, do sympathize with his desire, according to a friend who spoke to the Mail. “They believe Harry’s outspoken remarks may have been triggered because previously his voice and opinions were rarely heard within the royal family,” the source said, adding they feel the interviews he had done mean he “is finally being listened to.”

When he announced his forthcoming memoir on July 19, Harry said the book would be “accurate and wholly truthful.” A statement from its U.S. publisher, Random House, said it would cover “his lifetime in the public eye from childhood to the present day, including his dedication to service, the military duty that twice took him to the frontlines of Afghanistan, and the joy he has found in being a husband and father.”
