When Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from Brad Pitt nearly a half-decade ago, it spurred quite a bit of talk. “What happened?” we cried. “Wherefore?” we wailed. And perhaps most nosily, we wondered out loud, “What will happen to Château Miraval, the land on which they were married, the home of celebrity rosé that’s won an award?”
Now, many, many years later, through the slog of divorce court, lawyer switching, press spinning, and ex-visiting, we still don’t have an answer. But we do have a clue. Jolie has reportedly asked the court to lift a standard divorce order that keeps uncoupling couples from transferring assets during the proceedings. Per Us Weekly, it sounds like she has a buyer interested in Miraval and she wants to move fast before they find some other celebrity vineyard that churns out pink gold annually.
A document filed by her attorney, obtained by Us Weekly, reads, “After all these years of trying to extricate herself from being business partners with her ex-husband on acceptable financial terms, Ms. Jolie is extremely desirous of closing the pending agreement for the sale of Nouvel, LLC, and requests that the Court issue an order lifting the ATROs and specifying that they shall not apply to Ms. Jolie’s sale of Nouvel, LLC.”
A hearing has been requested for the end of September, and so the fate of the château lies in the hands of a judge.
The vineyard itself seemed to have picked its side a while back, while promoting a new wine through a moody black-and-white photo of Pitt (thought it name-checked both in the news release. “Rosé Champagne Ascends to the Peak of Perfection,” the promotional copy read. “The Jolie-Pitt and Perrin families, who made Miraval a global success story, are proud to announce their bold, new project: FLEUR DE MIRAVAL, the only Champagne house exclusively devoted to Rosé Champagne.”
Pitt, in turn, reportedly took his then girlfriend there last September for little getaway.
