‘Near Dark’ Heads Back to Streaming With Shudder Arrival in July!

Long out of print on DVD/Blu-ray and unavailable to even stream, we’ve learned today that Kathryn Bigelow‘s vampire-western masterpiece Near Dark is coming to Shudder!

The 1987 film takes a bite out of Shudder on July 1.

With incredible performances from Bill Paxton and Lance Henriksen, a mesmerizing score by Tangerine Dream, and a one-of-a-kind vibe, Kathryn Bigelow’s film is not just one of the best vampire movies ever made, but one of the best horror films *period* to come out of the 1980s. The film has always been a bit more under the radar than The Lost Boys (which was released in the very same year), but here’s hoping its return to streaming – coupled with an upcoming restoration from UK company StudioCanal – introduces it to a whole new audience of fans.

Personally speaking, it’s one of my favorite horror movies ever made.

In Near Dark, which was written by Eric Red (The Hitcher), “A small-town farmer’s son reluctantly joins a traveling group of vampires after he is bitten by a beautiful drifter.”

Head over to CBR.com to check out Shudder’s full lineup for July 2021.
