Years & Years star Olly Alexander has dropped a sultry, acoustic version of Lil Nas X’s “Montero” (Call Me By Your Name)” to mark Pride Month, and we are well and truly here for it.
The singer covered the hit song for an Apple Music Home Session just weeks after the track took the world by storm and skyrocketed to the top of the charts.
Speaking to Apple Music about the song, Alexander said he had a primal response when he first heard it.
“When I first heard ‘Montero (Call Me By Your Name)’ I wanted to take off all my clothes and run screaming through the street,” Olly Alexander said.
“The song is already perfect so I just wanted to have fun doing an acoustic version and seeing if I could sing all the parts in my range – which was a challenge, but I love it.”
He added: “Watching Lil Nas X’s ascent has been so exciting and inspirational to myself as a gay artist.”
Alexander also performed an acoustic version of his recent single “Starstruck” during the Pride Month acoustic session.

The singer released the song in April just weeks after he announced that his band Years & Years would be continuing as an Olly Alexander solo project, with his bandmates Mikey Goldsworthy and Emre Turkmen deciding to move on.
Shortly afterwards, he was joined by Kylie Minogue on a remix of “Starstruck” – proving that he is dedicated to the art of giving the gays everything they want.
It’s also been a busy few months for Lil Nas X. “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” shot to the top of the charts across the world on the back of a truly eye-catching music video, which saw him slide down a pole to hell and give Satan a lap dance.
The “Old Town Road” rapper is due to release his hotly-anticipated debut album this summer. The record, also titled “Montero”, will be a “coming-of-age story” and will see Lil Nas exploring his sexuality and heartbreaks.
