Nature Is Healing: Chris Noth Will Return for the Sex and the City Revival

“How could we ever do a new chapter of the Sex and the City story without our Mr. Big?” executive producer Michael Patrick King said.

Given Mr. Big’s notorious commitment issues, was it any wonder that this much drama would follow his potential inclusion in the Sex and the City revival? After months of speculation, HBO Max has confirmed that Chris Noth will return as the infamously reformed bachelor in the series, titled And Just Like That…. He’s set to star alongside Sarah Jessica Parker (his onscreen wife, Carrie), Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis, and new cast member Sara Ramirez. (If you’ve been living under a rock, Kim Cattrall is not returning as the sexually-liberated Samantha.)

“I’m thrilled to be working with Chris again on And Just Like That…,” executive producer Michael Patrick King said in a statement. “How could we ever do a new chapter of the Sex and the City story without Mr. Big?” That’s the very question fans have been asking themselves since news of the revival broke in January. When viewers learned that one-fourth of the core cast would be a no-show, that also put the fates of other mainstay characters up in the air.

At first, Page Six claimed that Noth would be absent from the revival. However, the actor appeared to invalidate those rumors on social media, writing that “everything changes—including announcements in the rags.” In the ensuing months, speculation swirled about several other show love interests, from Steve Brady (David Eigenberg) to Aidan Shaw (John Corbett). For the record, both have seemingly confirmed their own returns without official word from HBO Max. Meanwhile, Jason Lewis, who played Samantha’s model turned actor boyfriend Smith Jerrod, has denied any involvement.

The clock was ticking on whether or not Mr. Big would officially appear in the revival, as production is expected to commence this summer. Just last week, the show announced its first new series regular in Ramirez’s Che Diaz, a nonbinary podcast host with ties to Carrie.

Of course, the 10-episode continuation follows Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte as they navigate the journey from the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 30s to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s. It’s unclear just how Mr. Big will factor into the narrative, although his tendency to brood about being a good-looking man married to a successful woman feels like a worthy bet.
