David Rabadi: “Journalist, Author, and Visionary”

David Rabadi is a journalist and author brave enough to pen his own controversial story, as well as writing about the lives of others. Journalists often uncover things about people that are unexpected and sometimes even shocking….. However, the greatest challenge is writing about yourself and your own challenges as David did in his book, “How I Lost My Mind and Found Myself.”

As a journalist, what are the most intimate question(s) you have ever asked?

Some of my intimate questions to people I have interviewed are, what inspired them to get into the line of work they do? What are their struggles personally and professionally? What is their ultimate goal in life?

If you had a chance to interview anyone on the planet who would it be and why?

I would love to interview Mariah Carey. She is extremely talented, and her music has inspired me to chase my dreams and believe in myself.

What are some of the reasons you are successful at journalism?

I think what makes me successful in journalism is that I have passion in helping people share their story and I am a good listener. Also, I come from a place of empathy, sympathy and understanding.

Do you think writing is a talent, a gift, or a learned behavior that you have to practice to get better?

I think some people are blessed with the talent and gift to write. I also believe that people can learn to write and with practice can become good writers.

Who are your biggest influences and why?

My biggest influence in my life has been my sister Rana. We come from a middle eastern culture and growing up I saw how strict my parents were with her, but she was determined to go to college and get an education. She became independent and married the person she loved. The middle eastern culture is a suppressed culture, especially for women. She was an example of strength and courage.

Who were some of your best interviews and what made them so?

When I think of the interviews I have done, one that stands out is the interview I did with very talented photographer Mike Ruiz. He was open, honest and fun. He answered all my questions without restrictions. He also is very down to earth and humble.

How do you compare writing articles to writing a book?

Writing for me is a passion and the difference in writing an article and writing a book is writing a book is more time consuming. You have to do a lot of research for both an article and a book. In writing an article, you have to be creative in the questions that you ask so they don’t become redundant. In writing a book, you are telling a story and you have to make sure your reader stays engaged throughout. They are both very rewarding and I am blessed I can write and be published.
