Olivia Munn Was Once Just John Mulaney’s “Obsessed” Fan

In a 2015 interview Munn said that she was “obsessed with hanging out with and talking with” Mulaney at Seth Meyers’s wedding.

Olivia Munn and John Mulaney‘s relationship may be “very new,” according to tabloid rumors, but apparently the actress has been “obsessed” with the comedian for years.

The new couple reportedly “met at church in Los Angeles,” but were first introduced “several years ago” at Seth Meyers‘s 2013 wedding and “remained friendly” over the years. At the time of their first encounter, Munn was dating Will Forte and Mulaney was with his then-fiancée, Anne Marie Tendler. But in a 2015 HuffPost Live interview, the actress told a story about how she followed the comedian around that party all night. “We were at a wedding together and I was like ‘Oh my gosh, do you and your fiancée want to go have dinner or something and go hang out?’” she said. “At first it was cool, and then I kept going up to him at the wedding like ‘So, you having fun?’ I was just so obsessed with hanging out with and talking with him.” After the wedding, she added that she tried to email the comic, but never heard back. She said, “I might’ve got the wrong email—probably. That’s what I tell myself.” When Mulaney checked into rehab in December of last year for a 60 day treatment program for cocaine and alcohol addiction, Munn also tweeted out a message of support, writing, “Sending SO MUCH love and support to John Mulaney. You got this.”

Following that stay in rehab, Mulaney and Tendler announced this week that they’re divorcing after six years of marriage. Mulaney’s spokesperson confirmed the divorce, adding that “John will not have any further comment as he continues to focus on his recovery and getting back to work.” Tendler also released a statement via a spokesperson that read, “I am heartbroken that John has decided to end our marriage. I wish him support and success as he continues his recovery.”

According to People, since filing for divorce three months ago, Mulaney has started dating Munn. A source told the outlet that the relationship “is very new, they’re taking it slowly. They met at church in Los Angeles.” This new couple’s meet-cute venue being a place of worship sort of makes sense given that Mulaney was raised Catholic and often mines his religion for comedic material, while Munn has said she “grew up in the church”, and became a “complete believer” again after watching exorcism videos and becoming friends with Long Island Medium Teresa Caputo. And who could forget the look she wore to the 2018 “Heavenly Bodies” Met Gala that she said was “inspired by the Crusades.”
