Prince Philip’s Funeral: Scenes from Windsor Castle and St. George’s Chapel

On Saturday, the royal family came together to honor the the life of the Duke of Edinburgh.

On a sunny Saturday afternoon, the royal family came together to remember Prince Philip with an intricate funeral that he planned himself. Representatives of the many military branches he lent support to during his life were arrayed in the Windsor Castle quadrangle, before his coffin . He was followed by his children, Princess Anne, Prince Charles, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward, along with his grandson, Prince Harry, Prince William, and Peter Phillips, nephew David Linley, Earl of Snowdon, and Anne’s husband Timothy Laurence.

Meanwhile, other members of the family arrived at St. George’s Chapel to take their seats for the socially distanced service. The guest list was limited to 30 mourners due to the coronavirus pandemic. Zara Tindall, Mike Tindall, Princess Eugenie, Jack Brooksbank, Princess Beatrice, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, Kate Middleton, and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall were among the guests who watched the procession as it arrived at the chapel.

Queen Elizabeth followed in the State Bentley, one the first times that she has ever gone after her husband over their 73 years of marriage. “After a lifetime of keeping two paces behind the queen, the duke takes precedence for the first and last time,” said the BBC presenter Huw Edwards during the broadcaster’s coverage of the procession from the castle to the chapel.
