In a turn of events that has sent world leaders from Tokyo to Timbuktu into a tizzy, Jennifer Lopez uploaded some Instagram snaps on Saturday from the set of her forthcoming film Shotgun Wedding in which she is not–we repeat–she is not wearing the $1.8 million engagement ring placed upon her finger by Alex Rodriguez a little over two years ago.
The five images, which, should you scroll them, eventually capture J.Lo in selfie poses, show off plenty of impressive jewelry, but not “the rock.” Two hours later she uploaded two more images, similarly devoid of the symbolic bauble.
This comes just a few days after the publication of an InStyle cover story that not only lacks a glimpse at the ring, but makes no reference to her fiancé, though does include warm quotes from her ex-fiancé, Ben Affleck.
Please take a moment to breathe into a paper bag if this is all too much!
Early March saw the first reports that there was tumult in the House of J-Rod, and the beloved power couple might be splitting up. This was swiftly denied by Lopez and Rodriguez themselves, stating that they were merely “working through some things.” More alleged insiders emerged to give conflicting stories. The former Yankees slugger later flew to the Shotgun Wedding set from his home in Miami to reconnect with the superstar, signing baseball cards along the way.
Regarding the new images, one should consider that Jennifer Lopez is, in fact, shooting a movie right now. That means getting in and out of costume, and being on a set. Though Shotgun Wedding is being filmed in the Dominican Republic, these images are not of her lounging on a beach on an off day. In the first five she’s on a staircase, quite possibly bored to tears between takes as a gaffer endlessly tinkers with lights. The lack of the ring could mean nothing.
But on the other hand (<–see what I did there?) J.Lo didn’t become J.Lo by not knowing how to craft images. It is unlikely that she put these pictures into the world without knowing how people would react.
