Jessica Walter, Arrested Development and Archer Star, Has Died at 80

The beloved Emmy winner, whose career spanned decades, died in her sleep, according to her family.

Jessica Walter, the Emmy-winning actor and star of beloved TV comedies like Arrested Development and Archer, has died. Per Deadline, she passed away in her sleep at her home in New York City. She was 80.

“It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of my beloved mom Jessica,” said Walters’ daughter, Brooke Bowman, in a statement to Deadline. “A working actor for over six decades, her greatest pleasure was bringing joy to others through her storytelling both on screen and off. While her legacy will live on through her body of work, she will also be remembered by many for her wit, class and overall joie de vivre.”

Born in Brooklyn on January 3, 1941, Walter had a long and varied acting career that spanned television, film, and Broadway. She won the Emmy for outstanding lead actress in a miniseries or movie in 1975 for her work as the title character in Amy Prentiss. But Walter is perhaps best known for her Emmy-nominated turn as Lucille Bluth, the family matriarch on the critically acclaimed television comedy Arrested Development. Walter also voiced Malory Archer on FXX’s animated series Archer for eleven seasons.
