It seems that Prince William stayed true to his word that he would reach out to his brother following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s bombshell interview with Oprah as the royal siblings are now reportedly exchanging texts.
According to The Sun, after a year of barely speaking, the brothers have started messaging each other. Both William and Harry want to attend the unveiling of the statue of their late mother, Princess Diana, at Kensington Palace in July to commemorate what would have been her 60th birthday. Sources close to William told the outlet that he would welcome his brother’s attendance at the ceremony.
However, while the two royals are talking again and will likely both attend the unveiling of the statue, sources add that a friendly reunion for the cameras is still highly unlikely. “William and Harry are as far apart as it’s possible to be—emotionally and physically. Their relationship is at rock bottom. William’s raging with Harry after the Oprah interview,” the source explained. “He is so angry with him that it’s totally unthinkable at the moment for them to be happily reunited and stood together at the unveiling of the Princess Diana statue. It’ll take a lot of work to patch things up so they can put on united front.”
But if anything can bring these brothers back together, it seems likely that it would be their late mother. On Sunday, William and Kate Middleton shared the Mother’s Day cards their three children made in memory of “Granny” Diana on social media. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge also noted in the post that for those “experiencing bereavement, today may be particularly challenging.”
While he now lives in California, Harry also marked the occasion by having flowers laid on his mother’s grave in the UK. Omid Scobie, the co-author of the book on the royals Finding Freedom, tweeted on Sunday, “A spokesperson for Prince Harry says that he arranged for flowers to be laid at the grave of Princess Diana on the Spencer family estate in Althorp, Northamptonshire for #MothersDay in the UK today.” Diana, who died in 1997, is buried on an island in the center of a lake found on the Althorp Estate, the historical Spencer family seat.
During the interview with Oprah, Harry revealed that he and Meghan wouldn’t have been able to move to America and start their new life if it hadn’t been for the inheritance his mother left him. “It’s like she saw it coming and she’s been with us through this whole process,” he said.
