Like most creative industries, the fashion industry has taken a huge hit during the coronavirus pandemic—and some of the biggest names in fashion are no exception. With a new year beginning and the end of the pandemic in sight, Vanity Fair is catching up with 12 fashion greats, as they recommend their go-to items for quarantine, and their hopes for the year to come.
“Our time spent separated from our loved ones and friends has given us a new appreciation of gatherings and special occasions,” Anna Sui told us. “Telephone and Facetime calls are so much more meaningful. It’s great to spend time on the phone catching up instead of endless emails.”
Sui’s rock and roll spirit has propelled her since launching her first runway show in 1991, and she now has over 50 boutiques in eight different countries. The pandemic has posed a challenge to her business as it has for nearly everyone; “We have streamlined and simplified a lot of what we do since we have faced many limitations for resources and services,” she said. “Upcycling and revisiting our archives have given us a fresh way to approach design—but mostly we have come to realize we have so much to be thankful for and not take for granted.”
And while she’s spent time at home in quarantine, Anna has leaned toward items that truly scream “fun,” including a doll collection and a mystical nail polish. Ahead, a look at some more of her stay-at-home essentials.
