Gotta Hand It To Him: Matthew McConaughey Reveals Surprising Manicuring Habits

Whatever is going on in your life right now, it is about to get a little bit better once you learn how one of Hollywood’s A-listers gears up to get down with his cuticles.

The Daily Mail, sourcing a not-yet-online interview with Empire, has some exciting news. The hot new way to reduce stress, according to Matthew McConaughey, isn’t yoga or listening to classical music. It’s a nice, long interlude cutting your own nails.

“I’m an extremely talented fingernail clipper,” the Oscar-winning actor said. “I’ll get a headlamp on, glasses. Sit down with a cocktail and have a nice 45-minute session. It’s very relaxing to me for some reason.”

While this quote has a bit of a Mad Libs quality to it (whoever had “boozy self-manicure with a headlamp” in the McConaughey pool just scored big) keen observers may not be too surprised. He was spotted with long nails in 2016 while out in New York City.

This was during the production of Dark Tower, so this may have been part of his costume, but to confirm that one would have to watch Dark Tower.

Other revelations in the interview include his opinion on eating pickled pig’s feet (he’s not a fan!) and how his mother lied to him about winning a Little Mister Texas competition in 1977. It turns out he was only a runner up. This shocking discovery was made when he was gathering photos for his just-released memoir Greenlights. The actor reflected that the confidence his mother’s fib gave to him may have had a ripple effect all through his career.

“I may not have turned out to be where I am now if I hadn’t been lied to so wonderfully,” he said.
