Amphitheater in South Carolina to Be Renamed After Sharon Jones

An amphitheater in North Augusta, South Carolina will be renamed to honor late soul legend Sharon Jones, as The North Augusta Star and Rolling Stone point out. On Monday night (November 2), the North Augusta City Council passed a resolution to rename the 600-seat North Augusta Amphitheater the Sharon Jones Amphitheater. According to RS, Monday’s council hearing resulted in a 6-0 vote in favor of the rechristening.

Jones spent much of her life in New York, however she lived in North Augusta with her family for a the first few years of her childhood. The singer also lived in the city toward the end of her life. Jones died at the age of 60 in November 2016. She passed away after a sustained battle with pancreatic cancer.
