To celebrate the release of Scare Package on Blu-ray, Bloody has a hilarious faux commercial for Rad Chad’s Horror Emporium, Chad’s homemade campaign to keep his VHS Rental Store afloat in today’s world.
“Growing up a child of the ’80s, the video store was our church,” says director Aaron B. Koontz. “For Rad Chad Buckley, it’s also his home. Literally. We found a mattress in one of the back rooms with a curious candlelit shrine to Joe Bob Briggs. But we digress. As the creators of Scare Package, we wanted to pay homage to the local video store establishment, and what better way than to create our own completely absurd and rather hideous commercial. With our Rad Chad Rad Ad, you can get a glimpse into the day to day of the glamorous world of small town VHS rental stores in 2020.”
Created by Aaron B. Koontz & Cameron Burns, Scare Package features seven segments from seven different filmmakers, billed as a “splatter-packed, deviously clever throwback that pays homage to horror classics, exploring—and subverting—different genre tropes. All wrapped around every horror fan’s beloved stomping grounds: an old school video store.”
In Scare Package, Chad, the owner of Rad Chad’s Horror Emporium, recounts a series of bone-chilling, blood-splattered tales to illustrate the rules of the horror genre to his newest employee.
Led by a diverse group of up-and-coming genre filmmakers, Scare Package features the directorial debuts of actors Noah Segan and Baron Vaughn. Emily Hagins (Netflix’s Coin Heist), Anthony Cousins (The Bloody Ballad of Squirt Reynolds), Chris McInroy (Bad Guy #2, Death Metal), Courtney and Hillary Andujar (Production Designers of The Girl On The Third Floor, Bloodline), and Aaron B. Koontz (Camera Obscura, the upcoming The Pale Door) round out the collection of filmmakers.
