Mortal Kombat 4 is noted as being the first 3D entry in the series, though by today’s standards, it doesn’t fare as well as other 3D fighters of its era. Making matters worse were the endings, which in the arcade version, used the in-game representations of the fighters, complete with their questionable animations and equally-questionable dialogue. So, what’s a fan to do but recreate the endings themselves using modern technology?
That’s exactly what YouTuber Darko Subotin has been doing over the course of the past five months. And while he’s only done four of the kombatants so far, the visual quality makes the endings far more palatable. The dialogue, on the other hand, is still cringeworthy cheese, but there’s a certain “charm” about it.
