‘Borderlands 3’ Coming to PlayStation 5 And Xbox Series X; Current-Gen Owners Receive Free Upgrade

Gearbox and 2K Games are jumping on the next-gen upgrade bandwagon by announcing that Borderlands 3 will be coming to the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. Current gen owners will be able to upgrade for free, which includes all purchased additional content, as well as game saves.

2K made the announcement over the weekend during the PAX Digital Showcase. In addition, the next-gen Borderlands 3 will run in 4K resolution at 60 frames per second in single-player on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. The game will also introduce three- and four-player split-screen co-op play on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S.

As an added bonus, players will have the option to divide the screen horizontally or vertically in two-player cooperative play. The vertical split-screen option will also be added to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions via a free update. No word on if this will be exclusive to online play, or if couch co-op will be introduced.

Cross-platform play will also be coming to Borderlands 3 in 2021.

Also during PAX, Gearbox announced that Borderlands 3 will be receiving more DLC later this year. While the next paid downloadable content “won’t look like the campaign downloadable content of the now-complete Season Pass,” it will include a new game mode, one new skill tree for each Vault Hunter, and new Action Skills.

FL4K was the focus, as they received a new “Trapper” skill tree, which emphasizes shields and survivability. FL4K’s new Action Skill, “Gravity Snare,” is a throwable trap that tosses enemies up into the air before slamming them back into the ground, interrupting the attacks of enemies caught in its radius. FL4k’s latest pet option, a “Hyperion Loaderbot,” can be built up in a variety of ways as you develop the skill tree.

You can read more about these announcements on the official Borderlands website.

Borderlands 3 is available now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
