Colbert Brings Back Brutal Eric Trump Impression to Mock Convention Speech

One night after Stephen Colbert joked that Donald Trump Jr. “looked like he snorted a key” before his keynote address at the Republican National Convention, the Late Night host dusted off his savage impersonation of Donald Jr.’s younger brother, Eric, to mock his convention speech.

“When I stood on this convention stage four years ago, no one fully understood the historic change that was about to take place,” Eric said on Tuesday at the onset of his remarks. “We can all feel it. Something was happening. A movement was forming just below the surface.”

Interjected Colbert, “Eric, did your father never have the talk with you? Okay, well, when a young man meets a porn star and she has a rolled-up copy of Forbes magazine with his picture on it—oh, you know this story, okay.”

In his speech, Eric praised his father, President Donald Trump, for ordering the deaths of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and Iranian general Qasem Soleimani. “The day the mighty MOAB was dropped on insurgent camps is that day America took a stance to never be defeated by the enemy,” Eric said. “al-Baghdadi, Soleimani, dead.”

“That sounds like a list coming on,” Colbert said in response. He then offered Eric his own itemized list of Trump administration deaths including, “Democratic norms,” “170,000 Americans your father could have protected,” and “my soul from watching these last two nights.”

But Colbert saved his most personal burn for the end of Eric’s remarks. “In closing,” Eric said, “I’d like to speak directly to my father.”

“Hello, my name is Eric,” Colbert quickly interrupted, impersonating Eric by folding in his upper lip. “It’s a pleasure to meet you. Would you like a booth in the front or the back?”

As Colbert noted, it has been a busy week for Eric. On Monday, the New York State attorney general’s office asked a judge to order Eric to testify under oath as the state investigates the Trump organization’s finances. “He wasn’t feeling that chatty then,” Colbert said. “Instead, he decided to take the fifth. No surprise, Eric’s been taking the fifth for years in Trump’s ranking of his children.”

The second night of the RNC wasn’t just a Trump family affair (although the president’s daughter Tiffany Trump and First Lady Melania Trump both joined Eric on the schedule). Other speakers included Trump economic adviser Larry Kudlow. During his remarks, Kudlow referred to the coronavirus pandemic, which continues to kill more than 1,000 Americans per day, as something that “was awful.”
