‘The Thing’: John Carpenter Teases New Project Currently in the Works

Presented with a virtual Cheval Noir Award this weekend at the ongoing Fantasia International Film Festival, John Carpenter also took part in an hour-long “masterclass” conversation packed with questions from fans, talking about his music and films. During the chat, Carpenter noted that The Thing is the film he’s most proud of, while also teasing, well, something.

While speaking about Jason Blum, Carpenter teased: “I think he’s gonna be working on The Thing… rebooting The Thing. I may be involved with that. Maybe. Down the road.”

What’s Carpenter talking about here? Well, you may recall that earlier this year it was announced that a film adaptation of Frozen Hell was in the works, the newly-unearthed expanded version of John W. Campbell Jr’s novella Who Goes There? that served as the basis for Carpenter’s The Thing. The team behind the upcoming project? Universal and Blumhouse.

It would seem this is the project Carpenter is referring to, and if so, this is the first time we’ve heard of Carpenter himself having any (potential) involvement in that project. Innnteresting…

This particular conversation begins at 27-minutes into the video below.
