‘The Batman’ Looks Like DC’s Version of David Fincher’s ‘Se7en’ in First Official Trailer [Video]

“I’m vengeance.”

The main event of the virtual DC FanDome event is here, with the first official trailer for the Matt Reeves-directed The Batman making its way onto the internet tonight. And this is, much to our surprise and delight, no short-and-sweet little tease for the movie. Rather, DC puts a smile on our face with a 2-minute trailer that’s loaded with footage and plot details.

Robert Pattinson is of course playing Batman/Bruce Wayne for this particular take on the character, and though several DC villains are in the mix, it’s looking like Paul Dano‘s Riddler is going to be the main adversary he’s up against. The trailer also gives us our first looks at Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon and Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman.

Promising a dark detective thriller and one badass Caped Crusader who’s clearly taking no shit, Reeves’ The Batman looks like the kind of Batman movie horror fans in particular are going to love. The movie may not exist in the same world as Todd Phillips’ Joker but it’s at least cut from a similar cloth, favoring grounded-in-reality darkness over action spectacle.

Enjoy your first look at The Batman below, which still has much filming left to do. In fact, according to Reeves during the FanDome panel tonight, it’s only 25% in the can right now!

Additional cast includes Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Colin Farrell as Penguin, and John Turturro as Carmine Falcone. Jayme Lawson and Peter Sarsgaard will also star.

Warner Bros/DC’s The Batman is currently set for release on October 1st, 2021.
