Cardi B Says She Spent $100,000 on Coronavirus Tests to Film “WAP” Music Video

The music video for Cardi B‘s new single “W.A.P.” with Megan Thee Stallion is most definitely NSFW. But the rapper spared no expense to make sure the actual set of the video was the safest workplace possible for all of the crew and celebrity guest stars who filmed in the midst of a pandemic.

In an interview with i-D, Cardi explained, “It was kind of weird shooting the video in the age of corona. Like, we had to spend $100,000 dollars just on testing. Everybody on the shoot had to get tested for coronavirus.” She adds, “We had a tiger and a leopard there, but we didn’t film with them in there because of safety and because of the pandemic. We spliced those scenes together.” A detail that drew the ire of Tiger King‘s Carole Baskin, who previously recorded a Cameo video for the rapper. But Cardi says she’s not going to engage with Baskin, “Like, that’s just ridiculous you know? Oh, Lord. Like, girl, you killed your goddamn husband.” (Something Carole has always vehemently denied.)

But while Cardi handled shooting amidst a pandemic and wild animals with ease, she confesses, “One of the scariest parts was the snake scene. I was naked and one of them peed all over me.”
