Earlier today, WarnerMedia held their virtual Television Critics Association panel for upcoming HBO series “Lovecraft Country,” which comes from Misha Green, Jordan Peele and J.J. Abrams and is set to premiere on August 16. During the conversation, first brought to our attention by Eric Goldman, Green teased A Nightmare on Elm Street‘s influence on the show.
AOL provides us with the full quote, with Green explaining: “You’ll see we use Nightmare on Elm Street and Freddy Krueger to tell what it’s like to be a young Black girl in America.”
An interesting tease, to say the very least.
Green, the writer/creator/showrunner of HBO’s “Lovecraft Country,” also noted that the series “would have been incredibly hard to get on air if Get Out hadn’t come out.”
“Lovecraft Country” is based on the 2016 novel by Matt Ruff.
The series follows Atticus Freeman (Jonathan Majors) as he joins up with his friend Letitia (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) and his Uncle George (Courtney B. Vance) to embark on a road trip across 1950s Jim Crow America in search of his missing father (Michael Kenneth Williams).
This begins a struggle to survive and overcome both the racist terrors of white America and the terrifying monsters that could be ripped from an H.P. Lovecraft paperback.
