The marketing for Paul W.S. Anderson‘s video game adaptation Monster Hunter has been entirely centered on star Milla Jovovich up to this point, but let’s not forget that Jovovich’s co-stars – in addition to Tony Jaa, Tip ‘T.I.’ Harris, Meagan Good, Diego Boneta, Josh Helman and Ron Perlman – are, well, the monsters that her character will be hunting down.
Speaking with Empire Magazine, brought to our attention by Syfy Wire this week, Anderson finally teases Monster Hunter‘s monsters, which he says are all “50-60 feet tall“!
“They’re really amazing. We’re building them in even more detail than the dinosaurs of Jurassic World,” Anderson told Empire. “And they look even better, because we shot on real locations in South Africa and Namibia, which gives the animators something to really match into: real wind, real dust, real sun-flare. The monsters are the only CG thing in there.”
Here’s the official plot rundown…
“Behind our world, there is another: a world of dangerous and powerful monsters that rule their domain with deadly ferocity. When Lt. Artemis (Milla Jovovich) and her loyal soldiers are transported from our world to the new world, the unflappable lieutenant receives the shock of her life. In her desperate battle for survival against enormous enemies with incredible powers and unstoppable, revolting attacks, Artemis will team up with a mysterious man who has found a way to fight back.”
Screen Gems is set to release Monster Hunter on September 4, 2020.
