D. L. Hughley Collapses Onstage, Tests Positive for Coronavirus

“If your ass pass out in the middle of a show onstage, you probably need to get tested,” D. L. Hughley joked in a humble Instagram video late Saturday night. The performer was at Zanies Comedy Club in Nashville, Tennessee on Friday when he collapsed in the middle of a set. He was brought to St. Thomas Hospital, where he was treated for dehydration and exhaustion. While there, Hughley was surprised to learn that he tested positive for Covid-19.

“I didn’t have any classic symptoms,” he said in the video, saying he had no shortness of breath or cough, any fever, or a loss of smell or taste.

Hughley said he was headed back to his hotel room to quarantine for 14 days, and added he was appreciative for the kind words and prayers he’d received on social media. He also winked at “all the comedians who said such evil things when I was scared to death.”

Hughley’s sitcom The Hughleys aired on UPN from 1998 to 2002. He was also one of the four Original Kings of Comedy in Spike Lee‘s 2000 concert film with Bernie Mac, Cedric The Entertainer, and Steve Harvey, and is a veteran of Dancing With The Stars. His next film role will be as legendary funk bassist Bootsy Collins in music industry film Spinning Gold, opposite Samuel L. Jackson, Jason Isaacs, Jay Pharoah, Jason Derulo, and Neil Patrick Harris.
