Grimes Is Actually Leaving the Price of Her Soul Up to the Invisible Hand

The devil went down to Space X, looking for Grimes’s soul to steal. He was in a bind! He was way behind, and he was willing to make a deal.

“What’s that?” you ask.

Oh, just a lullaby Grimes might consider singing her new baby, spun from everything on her mind of late. The musician told Bloomberg on Thursday that she was putting her soul up for $10 million.

In the grand tradition of law art, she said she worked with her legal team to put a price on her soul and sell it as art. The “piece” will live alongside other works for an exhibit called “Selling Out” at Maccarone Los Angeles through August 31.)

I don’t want to be a hand-wringing fun-crusher, but I gotta ask, you know, is that wise? The soul is kind of all a person has these days when the world is going to Hades in a Model X. Though, I suppose she does have money thanks to her work as a performer. Maybe she doesn’t need her soul anymore. She did tell Bloomberg the price was so high she hoped no one would buy it.

And yet: “With the current state of the world, do you want to put something up for $10 million?” she mused. So? She left it up to the invisible hand. She said she’ll take the “best offer.” So I guess this is about capitalism. Or maybe it’s a thought-provoking exercise. It provokes thoughts like, just because you can, should you? Or, is right now a good time?
