There has been a new development in the unorthodox child rearing of Grimes and Elon Musk’s young son. Sadly, those of us who have already knitted some monogrammed booties may need to go back to the drawing board.
The child formerly known as X Æ A-12 Musk is now legally called X Æ A-Xii Musk, according to Grimes’s recent interaction with fans over Instagram.
As had been previously reported, the bureaucratic no-nothings at the Office of Public Affairs of the California Department of Public Health are too unwilling to allow true individualism from the nation’s leading futurist couple. “Vital records must be completed with the 26 alphabetical characters of the English language and appropriate punctuation such as hyphens, apostrophes, periods, and commas,” the pencil-pushers confirmed to USA Today.
As such, X Æ A-12 Musk was unable achieve escape velocity, name-wise.
Grimes posted a new photo of herself late Sunday, her first in over two weeks, and in the comments she answered questions about her newborn.
Working through IG comments can sometimes be taxing, so we’ve gone ahead and laid out the pertinent information.
First, a user known as @therealsainti asked “Did you change the baby name because of Californian laws ? What is the baby’s new name?” Grimes responded with “X Æ A-Xii.”
In a follow-up, @obeah_mon commented “Nice! Just removed the numbers to confirm to California law,” to which Grimes said “Roman numerals. Looks better tbh.”
A since-deleted comment from a no-longer active user going by @airheadedayla must have said something about the dash in the child’s name, which prompted a response from Grimes that reads “one dash is allowed.”
So now we all know how to spell the child’s name. How to pronounce it is still something of a question mark.
In other Grimes news, an animated video with lyrics printed in Russian of her most recent track, “My Name Is Dark,” dropped two days ago.
